BENALMADENA & ARROYO DE LA MIEL
Mini Tourist Guide
Benalmadena on the Costa del Sol Spain is another town hugely popular with British and Irish holiday makers and other Northern European ex pats.
Being the neighboring town of Torremolinos, it’s long Paseo along the coast, known as Benalmeda Costa, links the two towns together. This allowing people to hire electric mobility scooters to ride the stretch of smooth flat marble sea front on those warm summer nights.
You will find many bars and restaurants along Benalmadena Costa, an eclectic mix of local Spanish tapas restaurants, English karaoke bars to Irish pubs.
Other tourist attractions include Tivoli World outdoor amusement park, Selwo Marina Sea-life Aquarium and a cable car ride taking its passengers from the lower part of the coast all the way up the mountains overlooking the coast.
The actual name ‘Benalmadena’ is thought to have derived from the Arabic ‘Ben-al-madina’, meaning ‘Children of the Mines’, It was centuries ago that iron ore was manually mined in this area so many believe its name was created based on this fact.
The Costa Del Sol actually has a surprising amount of influences from the Moorish Arabic years.
The current statistical population of Benalmadena today is approximately 60,000 people, this including Arroyo de la Miel on the upper side.
Arroyo de la Miel is known for its steep hills so bear this in mind when reserving your mobility aid.
We would recommend no smaller than a mid size comfort scooter should you wish to be riding up the steeper hills of the town. If the passenger weighs over 100kg, a large scooter would be more reliable again to tackle the steeper hills.
